This qualification reflects the role of workers in a range of community settings and clients’ homes, who provide training and support in a manner that empowers people with disabilities to achieve greater levels of independence, self-reliance, community participation and wellbeing. Workers promote a person-centred approach, work without direct supervision and may be required to supervise and/or coordinate a small team.
No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this qualification at the time of publication. However, all students will be required to provide a national police check at enrolment and complete your first aid certificate before commencing work placement. You may also be required to obtain a flu vaccination.

All students must apply for a Working with Children Check. This is mandatory for those students that choose the disability or home and community services courses
You will be required to complete an initial assessment of your language, literacy and numeracy skills to see if you meet the ACSF level 4 requirements. If you do not meet these requirements, you may be required to complete additional foundation skills training with an approved provider prior to commencing this qualification.

Students will attend the mandatory work placement after completing the face to face theory and simulated training.The placement will include both training and assessment.
Australian Nursing and Training Services (ANTS) arranges work placements for students.
All students must complete a minimum of 120 hours of work placement in an accredited residential care facility for either aged care, disability or home and community organisation to be deemed competent for this qualification.
Along with your police check you will also need to obtain HLTAID003 Provide first aid prior to commencing your placement. Studying this qualification, it is mandatory to obtain a working with children check.
Some facilities may also require you to provideImmunisation records/evidence, (Flu Vaccines are required in all Accredited Residential Care Facilities, if you are not vaccinated the facility may not accept you)

Full fee paying students:$2500 (Payments will be made in two instalments).

Police Check – $27.50 – $49.50
HLTAID003 Provide first aid – $100
Flu Vaccination – $10 – $150 – this depends on the location you obtain the flu vaccination from and any costs associated with visiting a medical practitioner
General Vaccinations – $50 – $500. The cost of vaccinations will vary dependent on your eligibility for medicare rebates and the cost of your medical practitioner
Working with Children Check – this can be obtained from the NSW Office of the Children’s Guardian website. For students and volunteers this check is free of charge with a 1 year expiry. For a full check with a 5 year expiry the cost is $80. Students who will be under the age of 18 during their placement are not required to obtain a WWCC check.

Recognition of Prior Learning
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) allows a person to receive recognition and credit for the knowledge and skills they have, no matter how and where they were attained, including overseas. This can include skills from previous study, work experience and life experience.
Australian Nursing and Training Services has an obligation to recognise Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) qualifications and Statements of Attainment issued by other registered training organisations
The course will be presented in competency-based mode and the student’s competency will be assessed at all levels according to competencies and performance criteria. The training package for each competency specifies the conditions and method of assessment. Assessment methods range from completing set tasks and activities, class attendance and participation, completion of assignments / projects and practical demonstrations in a simulated or workplace environment.
